Tonfa-Jutsu Kihon

トンファー術   基本

Tonfa-Jutsu (or トンファー術 in Japanese) includes the fighting techniques ( 術 Jutsu ) with the T-baton ( トンファー Tonfa ) according to Ryukyu Kobujutsu. Next, Kihon (or 基本 in Japanese) means basics or fundamentals. In the video embedded below (recorded on 8 May 2023), budoka Johan Oldenkamp, a former national champion from the Netherlands, performs these basic fighting techniques for the Tonfa, both front left ( 左 hidari ) and front right ( 右 migi ).

The individual techniques of this basic Tonfa Kihon series are:

  1. Uchi-Uke
  2. Soto-Uke
  3. Gedan-Uke
  4. Gyaku-Gedan-Uke
  5. Ura-Uchi
  6. Gyaku-Mawashi-Uchi
  7. Katsugi-Hikitori
  8. Uchi-Yoko-Uchi
  9. Soto-Yoko-Uchi
  10. Katsugi-Hikitori
  11. Tsuki

The following Kihon series (recorded on 24 April 2023) is based on the Renzoku ( 連続 ) Kumite ( 組手 ).
