Hamahiga no Tonfa

浜比嘉のトンファー

Hamahiga no Tonfa (or 浜比嘉のトンファー in Japanese) is a Ryukyu Kobujutsu Tonfa Kata. The first part of this name – Hamahiga (or 浜比嘉 in Japanese) – refers to an island located in the Yokatsu Islands of Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, near the Katsuren Peninsula, where allegedly the origin of this Tonfa ( トンファー ) Kata lies. In the video embedded below (recorded on 24 April 2023), budoka Johan Oldenkamp, a former national champion from the Netherlands, performs this ‘Tonfa Kata from the Hamahiga Island’.
