Rob ZwartjesRob Zwartjes was born on 4 October 1932 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After practicing Judo and Jujutsu from the age of 14, he later continued with Karatedo, where he would eventually achieve the 9th Dan in Wado-Ryu. In 1973, Rob Zwartjes went to Japan for 4 months to train Kobujutsu with Motokatsu Inoue (1918 – 1993) in his new dojo in Shimizu city (present Shimizu ward, Shizuoka city, Japan). In this way he brought Ryukyu Kobujutsu to the Netherlands. On 15 May 1994, he promoted me and my training partner Jaap Leppink (also shown in the embedded video below) to 1st Dan. The 89-year-old Rob Zwartjes passed away in Amsterdam on 13 December 2021. |
Harry CruimingHarry Cruiming was born on 27 January 1951. From 1991 he was my first Kobujutsu teacher, who himself was a student of Rob Zwartjes Shihan (1932 – 2021). He taught in Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands. Photography was also one of his passions, and the photos in the video embedded above were all taken by him. On 6 April 2015 the 64-year-old Harry Cruiming passed away. |
The above picture was taken on Saturday 17 June 2023 at the Four Masters workshops, held in sports hall “De Kannebuis” in Halsteren, the Netherlands. At that moment Wim van de Leur (1944), Shihan, had the 7th Dan in Ryukyu Kobujutsu.
