Urasoe no Kon

浦添の棍

Urasoe no Kon (or 浦添の棍 in Japanese) is a Ryukyu Kobujutsu Bo Kata. Urasoe (or 浦添 in Japanese) is located in the southern part of the main island of Okinawa, facing the East China Sea and neighboring the prefectural capital of Naha. Allegedly, Shinken Taira (1897 ‐ 1970) supposedly learned this kata from Mabuni Kenwa (1889 ‐ 1952), founder of Shito-ryu. In the video embedded below (recorded on 2 May 2025), budoka Johan Oldenkamp performs this Bo Kata from Urasoe.
